Healthcare.gov is allowing consumers to “window shop” until Open Enrollment begins on Saturday, Nov. 15.
When “window shopping” for health coverage, pay close attention to these three items:
- Network – the doctors and hospitals that are available in the plans you are considering.
- Monthly Premium Cost – this cost is a recurring, monthly payment (similar to car insurance or a monthly cable bill)
- Co-Insurance Costs – these costs vary depending on the kind of plan you choose. Sometimes a plan with a low monthly premium has high costs, so consider paying a little more in monthly premium to get 0 or low co-insurance cost.
Silver plans potentially offer the best combination of cost offsets and benefits. Give Silver plans careful consideration when making your decision.
